MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Alexandria Robinson and Drew Hildebrandt have been named Mid-American Conference Medal of Excellence Award winners.
Robinson, a member of the women's track & field team, and Hildebrandt, an All-American wrestler, are two of 24 student-athletes -- two from each full-time member institution -- to be so honored by the league.
Robinson, a junior from Novi, competes in the heptathlon and pentathlon along with the high jump. She is a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree who carries a 3.78 grade point average while majoring in public and nonprofit administration.
Earlier this year, she was named a semifinalist for the prestigious Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup, which goes to student-athletes who have excelled as role models and have made contributions to sports and their community.
She also earned the Mid-American Conference Diversity & Inclusion Student-Athlete Award and is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She played a vital role in the implementation of Chippewa Chats, an initiative that engages student-athletes, coaches and staff in dialogue related to diversity and inclusion. The program spawned partnerships with the Office of Diversity Education and Multicultural Academic Student Services.
Robinson also works as an Inclusion Assistant for Residence Life and completed an internship with the National Community Reinvestment Coalition in Washington D.C., which provides support to economically and disadvantaged communities occupied by minorities. Robinson assisted with the assurance of fair lending and inclusion banking for low to moderate communities.
Hildebrandt, a junior from Granger, Ind., led the Chippewas with 31 victories (against three losses) in 2019-20, winning the MAC title at 125 pounds and then earning First Team All-America honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association. He finished the season ranked eighth nationally and was seeded sixth for the NCAA Championships, which were cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
A finance major who carries a 3.64 GPA, Hildebrandt is a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree and was named in 2020 at MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete.
