Amy Folan's Maroon & Gold Message
Hello again from Mount Pleasant where spring has sprung and trees and flowers are blooming all about campus! At Central Michigan University, we are fortunate to have such gorgeous grounds. It has been great to see people walking around campus and enjoying the scenery as the weather warms up, and my family and I are also looking forward to our first Michigan summer together and touring this beautiful state.
I first want to congratulate our baseball program on winning its second-straight Mid-American Conference championship and wish our team well as it heads to Notre Dame to take part in the regional round of the NCAA Tournament this weekend. This has been another storied chapter for this illustrious program, which has played a big role in our department reaching 100 MAC championships this weekend as well. This is a tremendous milestone for our department and a testament to all the amazing student-athletes and coaches in our rich history.

I am also deeply honored to recognize 51 student-athletes who took part in CMU's 2021 commencement ceremonies. Seeing our student-athletes receive a diploma from our great institution and reach their undergraduate academic goals is one of the best, most rewarding of feelings in the business. Our student-athletes work so hard and admirably dedicate themselves to finding success on the playing fields and in the classroom, so I can't wait to see the great achievements they reach in their professional careers and how they go on to impact the world and become leaders in our community.
After the spring championships season and graduation, we shift our focus to planning and coordinating for fall sports, especially football. We are just 95 days away from the start of the 2021 season and, while summer will offer a much-needed respite for our staff and student-athletes, we are so eager to get back to Kelly/Shorts Stadium to cheer on our CMU Chippewas. Coach McElwain and the team recently wrapped up a successful spring practice period and we have high hopes for this fall with 24 starters returning, including 10 all-conference selections. We have seen positive signs with season ticket renewals for 2021 and we're excited share our football celebrations plan with our greater CMU community as we push for new ticket sales.
One of the three primary pillars of the CMU Athletics department is providing an exceptional fan experience during gamedays. We missed having everyone together in the stands at Kelly/Shorts Stadium last year and, to mark what will be an amazing return to campus this fall, our staff has been hard at work building out a plan to celebrate the great things happening at CMU and in our community during home football games. We have worked with campus partners to devise exciting promotions and events that ensure we are maximizing CMU's efforts to recruit new students and engage alumni. Below you will find the celebratory theme for each home football competition in 2021, and event details will be released this summer once finalized:
We have partnered with the CMU Alumni Association to present the Gold+ Package, a combination of a Gold Membership plus a general admission season ticket to the 2021 CMU Football season in Kelly/Shorts Stadium. The great and unique benefits include all Alumni Gold Membership Benefits, access to a pregame reception area and access to the CCC West Side Patio for one home game for you and a guest. For more info, go to the Gold+ Ticket Package page.

Finally, I have two more important updates about home football gamedays to share. First, we are in the process of finalizing an operations plan for limited alcohol sales to the general public on gamedays. As in-stadium alcohol sales are an amenity many of our fans have requested, we look forward to being able to provide an enhanced gameday experience while maintaining a safe environment at home games. Second, and with the note of safety, we continue to work with campus and community health and safety experts on fan attendance and gameday operations guidelines for the upcoming season. Based on our current conversations, I have high hopes that CMU Football gamedays will look similar to those prior to the pandemic. I cannot wait until we can have a packed Kelly/Shorts Stadium supporting our CMU Chippewas again.
Before ending this message, I'd like to put voice to my continued thoughts and well wishes for football student-athlete, John Keller. John recently left the hospital and I am inspired his courageous recovery. Thank you to the local authorities, emergency workers, student from the CMU ROTC program and hospital staff that played a critical role in saving John's life and bringing the responsible individuals to justice.
I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful start to the summer. Please stay safe and be well until we see you again in the fall, because there a lot of great things happening here at CMU and we are excited to both celebrate and be a part of them.
