MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The week in Central Michigan Athletics begins today, Monday, with the women's golf team at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va.

The two-day, 54-hole, stroke-play tournament begins with 36 holes and concludes with the third and final 18-hole round on Tuesday. The field comprises 14 teams.

The Chippewas finished third in an 11-team field last week at the Cleveland State Nevel Meade Collegiate in Prospect, Ky.

Also this week, three CMU gymnasts will partake in the NCAA Regional at Auburn (8 p.m.). CMU's Hannah DeMers will compete in the all around; Katie Kowalski will compete on vault; and Sierra DeMarinis will compete in the floor exercise.

All three will look to earn a berth in the NCAA Championships, which are scheduled for April 14-16 in Fort Worth, Texas.

The CMU baseball, track & field, and lacrosse teams will be in action this weekend, while the Chippewa softball team heads to Notre Dame on Wednesday (5 p.m.) for a nonconference game.

• The CMU softball team (13-12) is coming off a Mid-American Conference doubleheader sweep of Ball State on its home-opening weekend. The wins lifted the Chippewas to 4-1 in MAC play. They sit in second place, one game behind Miami (Ohio).

Notre Dame (23-6) is scheduled to entertain Loyola-Chicago in a nonleague game on Tuesday.

• The Chippewa baseball team is scheduled to entertain MAC foe Ohio on Friday (3 p.m.) in its home opener.

Friday's game is the first of four in a weekend series between the Chippewas, who are the two-time defending MAC champions, and the Bobcats. They are slated to play a doubleheader on Saturday (12 p.m.) and close the series on Sunday (1 p.m.).

CMU, which dropped two of three at Iowa last weekend, is 10-10, 5-1 MAC. The Chippewas are tied for first place in the league in the loss column with Ball State, which is 7-1 in conference play.

Ohio is 11-8, 5-3 after splitting two MAC games at Bowling Green over the weekend.

• The Chippewa lacrosse team returns to MAC play on Sunday at Youngstown State. Both the Chippewas and Penguins are 5-6, 3-1 MAC, and tied for second in the conference behind first-place Robert Morris.

• The CMU track & field team is scheduled to partake in the Michigan State Open on Friday (12 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.) at the Spartans' Ralph Young Track and Field Facility in East Lansing.
