CMU Student-Athletes Impress In Classroom

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Once again, Central Michigan student-athletes proved their mettle in the classroom.
Chippewa student-athletes posted a 3.27 semester grade point average, the 47th-straight semester that the department has posted a mark of at least a 3.0+. The cumulative grade point average of 3.35 during the recently completed semester is up from the 3.30 they recorded during the Fall 2021 semester.
"We're extremely proud of our student-athletes' academic successes this year," Zyzelewski Family Director of Athletics Amy Folan said. "It's telling of the quality student-athlete that we bring to the university, and to their collective hard work and drive to excel both academically and athletically."
For the semester, 62 CMU student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA; a total of 211 achieved a GPA of 3.5 or better; and a total of 329 posted a semester GPA of at least 3.00.
Twenty-one CMU student-athletes carry a cumulative GPA of 4.0; 188 hold a cumulative of at least 3.5.
Eleven of CMU's 15 varsity teams increased their semester GPA from the Fall 2021 semester to the Spring 2022 semester. The top gainers in that time span were the football and men's basketball programs. Both raised their collective GPAs by 0.19.
Eleven programs posted a team GPA of 3.00 or better for the spring semester, and 14 of CMU's 15 varsity programs have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.
Gymnastics posted the top GPA in the semester with a 3.73 and women's cross country maintains a department-best 3.80 cumulative GPA.
