Brian Taylor scores 16 points, Aidan Rubio finishes with 13 to lead Chippewas in exhibition win over Northwood; CMU to host second exhibition game on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. at McGuirk Arena.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Brian Taylor scored 16 points and Aidan Rubio added 13 on Sunday as Central Michigan downed Division II Northwood, 81-55, in a men's basketball exhibition game at McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas entertain Division III Alma in their second and final exhibition game on Sunday, Oct. 29 (4 p.m.). They open the season on Nov. 6 at Oklahoma.
Third-year CMU coach Tony Barbee played all 14 players who dressed. Ten of the 14 played double-digit minutes. Eleven of those players are new to the program this season.
Markus Harding and Paul McMillan IV added eight points apiece for CMU, which made 47.8 percent of its field goal attempts and finished 7 for 17 (41.2 percent) from 3-point range.
The Chippewas outrebounded the Timberwolves, 43-33. Taylor grabbed eight boards to lead CMU, which never trailed and bumped its lead to 10, 27-17, on a Taylor layup with just under four minutes to play in the first half.
CMU outscored Northwood, 11-2, over the final 4:27 of the first half for a 34-19 halftime lead. The Chippewas opened the second half with a 24-3 spurt for their largest lead, 36 points (58-22), with under 14 minutes to play.
