Chippewas Honor Their Best and Brightest at Chippewa Athletic Awards

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Adam Rzentkowski of the cross country team was named the Male Athlete of the Year and Audrey Whiteside of the lacrosse team picked up the Female Athlete of the Year Award on Monday during the annual Chippewa Athletic Awards at McGuirk Arena.

The event served as a celebration of Central Michigan University athletics and its 400-plus student-athletes.

The other award winners:

Male Newcomer of the Year: Bert Emanuel Jr., football.

Female Newcomer of the Year: Claire Ammeraal, volleyball.

Moment of the Year: Men's basketball toilet paper toss game vs. Western Michigan.

Teammate of the Year: Tracy Hubbard, wrestling.

Spring Impact Player of the Year: Hayley Manners, track & field.

Spark Player of the Year: Anya Turner, women's cross country/track & field.

Game of the Year: Men's basketball win at Michigan.

Chippewa Legacy Award: Sammi Mills, softball.

Coach of the Year: Christine MacDonald, gymnastics.

Team of the Year: Gymnastics.
