
DeMers, Stuart Earn MAC Medal of Excellence Award

Gymnast Hannah DeMers and football player Robi Stuart earn the Mid-American Conference’s most distinguished academic/athletic award.
The Medal of Excellence is presented to two standout student-athletes, one male and one female student-athlete, at each of the MAC's 12 full-time member schools. The selected student-athletes are required to achieve a minimum 3.50 grade point average and have exhibited athletics excellence, leadership, and service. Both honorees have been invited to attend the MAC Honors Dinner, scheduled to take place at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 1 at the Metropolitan Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio.

A senior from Canton, Mich., DeMers became just the third gymnast in school history to qualify for a second NCAA Regional as an individual joining Danielle Espinoza (2006 and 2008) and Katie Simon (2007 and 2008). As a senior in 2023, DeMers was named the MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year award and become the first gymnast in school history to earn All-MAC regular season honors for the fourth time in her career. While guiding CMU to its second consecutive MAC title (2022 and 2023), DeMers won three individual titles at the MAC Championships: all-around, bars, and floor. Her career-highs include a 39.550 in the all-around, 9.900 on vault, 9.950 on bars, 9.925 on beam, and 9.950 on floor.
Over her four-year career (2019-23), DeMers is a one-time MAC Gymnast of the Year (2022), one-time MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year (2023), three-time Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association Academic All-American, five-time MAC individual champion (2021 uneven bars, 2022 all-around, 2023 all-around, 2023 uneven bars, 2023 floor), three-time MAC Championship All-Tournament Team member (2021, 2022, 2023), and three-time Academic All-MAC member (2021, 2022, 2023). DeMers has earned 13 total MAC weekly honors, including 12 Gymnast of Week accolades and one MAC Specialist of the Week award. She has guided the Chippewas to three MAC championships in her four-year career.

Earlier this May, DeMers graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Arts and Health Administration. She earned Magna Cum Laude academic honors after graduating with a 3.88 grade point average.
A two-time All-MAC selection and four-time Academic All-MAC selection, Stuart has named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, awarded annually by the National Football Foundation to the nation's top scholar-athlete in college football. He is a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree who holds a bachelor of science degree with a major in neuroscience and minor in psychology. He has a 4.0 grade point average.
Stuart is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in neuroscience and will play one more season of football for the Chippewas in 2023. His career goal is to be in on the research field for head trauma for football players.

In 2021, Stuart received the Michael R. Sadler Division I Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, given by the NFF-Michigan Chapter. The award is named in honor of the late Michigan State punter, a four-time Academic All-American, who was killed in a car accident in 2016. Throughout his career, he has earned various honors including the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District award, NFF Hampshire Honor Society honors, and garnered the MAC Distinguished Scholar-Award award. The Honor Roll student was also listed on the President's List at Central Michigan.
A Saginaw, Mich. native who attended Nouvel Catholic Central High School, Stuart started 10 of CMU's 12 games in 2023 at defensive tackle and contributed 29 tackles (15 solo), 5.5 tackles for loss for 21 yards, one sack, a quarterback hurry, and a forced fumble. In his five-year collegiate career, Stuart has accumulated 104 total tackles, (52 solo), 19.0 tackles for loss for 73 yards, and 6.5 sacks for 42 yards in 50 total games played and 25 starts.
