Amy Folan's Maroon & Gold Memo: Best Fans in the MAC

Showing up for the CMU Chippewas
The past few weeks provided another amazing example of how CMU has the greatest fans in the Mid-American Conference. As we kicked off football season, our fans showed up at home and on the road to represent the CMU Chippewas.
Â
Our football games at Michigan State and Notre Dame helped elevate the CMU brand on a national stage with both games broadcast nationally and an incredible turnout of fans wearing maroon and gold — more than 2,000 at each of the two games respectively — some coming from as far as Florida and Arizona.
Â
CMU's home opener against New Hampshire on Sept. 9 also was a success, with nearly 5,000 students in attendance, an overall attendance that surpassed last year's home opener and a big 45-42 win for the Chippewas!
Â
Through a partnership with the Steam Railroad Institute, nearly 150 people boarded the Maroon and Gold Express in Owosso to travel to Mount Pleasant for a unique experience to cheer on the Chippewas for their first home game of the season. Prior to the game, passengers had the option of being dropped off on campus to tailgate or in downtown Mount Pleasant to shop and eat. A special thanks to the team at the Mount Pleasant Area Convention and Visitors Bureau for their partnership in creating this memorable experience for our fans.
Â
Fired Up for Homecoming
We hope you're planning to come home for CMU Homecoming Oct. 13 and 14! Many activities are scheduled throughout the weekend on campus, including several exciting athletics matchups you won't want to miss:
Congratulations to homecoming grand marshals Bill and Carla Kanine, incredible supporters of CMU and our athletics program. The Kanines have been avid CMU Athletics fans since their time as students and have continued that dedication as members of the Chippewa Athletic Fund, supporting our student-athletes and sport programs, and several of our facility projects over years. Don't miss them in the Homecoming parade on Oct. 14 beginning on campus and traveling to downtown Mount Pleasant!

An upgraded experience at Kelly/Shorts Stadium
CMU Athletics completed a nearly $150,000 renovation of the Fabiano Club Lounge at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, providing an elevated fan experience for club seat and suite season ticket holders. Thank you to the many local businesses and donors who provided financial support to make this upgrade possible for our fans.
Â
Conference collaboration in Lansing
Last week, athletics administrators and legislative alumni from the Mid-American Conference schools came together in Lansing to talk about our current and future challenges on the athletics landscape to proactively try to navigate together. We appreciate the partnership in the MAC and are grateful for our alumni efforts in Lansing!
