Emily Paupore races to 152nd-place finish as third all-time CMU women's runner to compete
MADISON, Wis. — Central Michigan Cross Country's Emily Paupore capped part of her historic career on Saturday at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships at the Zimmer Championship Course.
The Negaunee, Mich. senior became the third CMU Women's Cross Country runner in program history to qualify and race in the Championship after solidifying a 4th place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 15.
She earned an at-large bid with a 19:36.9 finish in the women's 6k, which reset her own CMU women's cross country record, a feat she accomplished on Nov. 2 at MAC Championships.
Paupore finished 152nd of a 254-runner race in the Women's Championship 6k, one of eight Mid-American Conference runners to compete. She raced alongside seven representatives from Toledo, who qualified as a team for the Championship.
"It was so amazing for Emily to end her cross country career at NCAA Championships," said Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Jenny Swieton. "She finished high in the regional every time she was there, and she's truly proved that consistent training over time pays off."
Paupore set off for Wisconsin alongside Swieton and her two teammates, Jelena Prescott and Natalie Newcombe. She was met in Madison by more of her teammates, who cheered her on in the big moment.
"It was so awesome to have teammates with her," Swieton said. "As awesome as it is to come and race at a championship, it is so much better to have your friends by your side."
Paupore caps her collegiate cross country career as a four-time All-MAC honoree with a Mid-American Conference title and bronze medal. She is a two-time NCAA Great Lakes All-Region honoree and holds the CMU Women's Cross Country 5k and 6k records among other accolades.
She looks onward to the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons as the reigning 2025 Indoor 5000m MAC Champion.
"She works hard, sets big goals for herself and it helps her continue to improve. This may be the end of her cross country career, but she still has big goals on the track and I can't wait to watch her chase them."
