Chippewas to host 2nd Annual Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational in Napa, Calif. in March 2025
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan Men's Golf has announced the spring section of its 2024-25 schedule, highlighted by the return of the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational, as announced on Tuesday.
The Chippewas, led by third-year coach Kevin Jennings, return six members of the 2023-24 roster, juniors Philippe Yturralde, Jeffrey Andrus, Easton Phillips, Orlando Coons and Nicholas Kilgore and sophomore Jeffrey Sager. CMU welcomed Keith Hunter, a transfer from Wallace State Community College.
CMU completed a four tournament slate in the fall, highlighted by a trip to Mishima City, Shizuoka, Japan, to compete in the
Pan Pacific University Super League Tournament.
The Super League Tournament is connected to the Chippewas' blossoming relationship with Nihon University, which competed in CMU's Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational in March 2024. Nihon will compete again in the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational in 2025.
CMU competed in three other fall events, including Oakland University's Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate (Sept. 13-15) and West Virginia's Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 1). The Chippewas finished its fall schedule with a brand-new CMU-hosted event in conjunction with CMU Women's Golf, the Motor City Matchup at the Birmingham Country Club.
CMU opens the spring section of its schedule with another match play event, the MAC-Atlantic 10 Match Play Challenge hosted by Ball State in Dade City, Fla. The event at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club will take place on Feb. 10-11, 2025.
In March, the Chippewas will participate in the Colin Montgomerie HCU Invitational (March 3-4), Michigan's Desert Mountain Intercollegiate (March 7-8), Western Carolina's People's Golf Championship at Sea Palms Resort (March 13-15) and the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational, CMU's joint event with the PGA Tour Pathways to Progression and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), from March 23-25.
"We're excited to host the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational for the second year in conjunction with the PGA Tour Pathways to Progression and the Golf Coaches Association of America," Jennings said. "Last year's champion, Brigham Young University, will be returning to defend its title, and we will also have Nihon University returning.
"We will also have a stronger field this year. The tournament is growing in the exact way that we'd hoped."
The event will take place at the Silverado Resort North Course in Napa, Calif., the course where the PGA Tour's Fortinet Championship is played.
The Chippewas will close its regular season slate with Northern Illinois' Kishwaukee Intercollegiate (April 5), Missouri's Tiger Invitational (April 7-8) and Ball State's Redbird Shootout (April 14) before taking on the MAC Championship from April 28-29 in Grove City, Ohio.
