White-Out/Toilet Paper Toss Men’s Basketball Game scheduled against rival Western Michigan on Saturday, January 25 at 7 p.m.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—In celebration of its time-honored tradition, Central Michigan University will host a Toilet Paper Toss game for the third consecutive year when it plays rival Western Michigan in a men's basketball contest on Saturday, January 25 at McGuirk Arena. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. ET that night.
For this highly anticipated event, tickets are $30 for lower bowl reserved seating, $22 for upper bowl reserved, and $15 for general admission bleacher tickets. Groups of 10 or more can buy tickets at a discounted rate of $8 each for general admission bleacher tickets. For the second consecutive year, limited Upper Club Lounge tickets are available for $75 each, which includes dinner. A cash bar featuring beer, wine, and soft drinks is also available for purchase in the Upper Club Lounge. Tickets are available online at www.cmuchippewas.com, by stopping by Ticket Central, or calling Ticket Central at (989) 774-3045.

Parking passes are $10 each plus fees. Passes bought in advance will be mailed out if ordered online or over the phone. Please note: parking pass prices may increase as we get closer to game day and on game day itself. Free parking is available in Lot 64.
Student tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis as 1,200 student tickets have been allotted for the event. Students will not be admitted into the event without a ticket.
To attend the Toilet Paper Toss, students must claim a ticket through the Maroon & Gold Rewards prize store. Tickets cost 500 points and can be earned by logging in daily, answering trivia questions correctly, and checking into CMU athletic events. Additional points can be earned by arriving early and staying the entirety of the event. Students who have claimed a ticket can stop by Ticket Central in the Kulhavi Events Center to pick up their physical student ticket beginning on Monday, Jan. 13. In addition, the first 200 student ticket holders will receive a free meal courtesy of Buffalo Wild Wings. Students will enter the arena on game day through the Rose Hall East Entrance.
The game is designated as a "White Out," fans are encouraged to wear white shirts, and will have the opportunity to participate in the previously nationally known CMU tradition of throwing toilet paper rolls on the playing floor. A time for the simultaneous pre-game toss will be announced later. White pompoms will be distributed in the arena. Toilet paper will be furnished for all fans as rolls will be distributed upon entrance. After the throw, all toilet paper will be recycled.
"We are extremely excited to bring this memorable event to our fans," Central Michigan Zyzelewski Family Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan said. "This game has something for everyone. We will rekindle a school tradition that everyone can participate in, play our rival in Western Michigan, and host a White-Out. I urge fans to buy their tickets now."
Last year on Feb. 17, 2024, Central Michigan held a second straight Toilet Paper Toss as 5,032 packed McGuirk Arena to watch the Chippewas defeat Western Michigan 69-42, the largest win for CMU in the series. On January 28, 2023, Central Michigan celebrated the event's 40th anniversary as it brought back the Toilet Paper Toss vs. Western Michigan. The announced crowd of 5,425 set a new McGuirk Arena attendance record as Brian Taylor hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 6.6 seconds to play as Central Michigan defeated Western Michigan 70-69.
The toilet paper toss tradition began at Central Michigan during the 1982-83 basketball season with the first event occurring in early February 1983. The fad was short-lived but was brought back in 1986 by the athletic department. An iconic photograph during the Feb. 18, 1987, game against Western Michigan, taken by CMU photographer Peggy Brisbane, was published in People Magazine.
During that time, Central Michigan's student section was known as the Snake Pit. During games, the student group sported maroon t-shirts depicting a snake logo. Legend has it that a rival coach referred to playing a game in the arena as being in a "snake pit" and the name was subsequently adopted by the CMU student section.
