Women's Cross Country's Newcombe Named MAC Runner of the Week

Natalie Newcombe, a senior, ran the second-fastest 5k in CMU WXC history on Friday to win the Jeff Drenth Memorial.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Natalie Newcombe of Central Michigan Women's Cross Country has been named the Mid-American Conference Runner of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Newcombe, a senior from Mecosta, Mich., won the women's 5k at the 39th annual Jeff Drenth Memorial on Friday, Aug. 30 in 17:03.5, by 33 seconds. She shattered her previous personal record by over a minute.
The Chippewa women placed 1st of 7 teams.
The Chippewas, who were ranked 12th in the Great Lakes Region by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason poll, are scheduled to race at Ball State's We Fly Championship Preview on Saturday, Sept. 14.
