Cross Country Wraps Up Paul Short Classic

Nine runners log personal-best times
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Central Michigan Cross Country took the line Friday morning at the Paul Short Classic, hosted by Lehigh College.
Central Michigan runners competed in three races, the Men's Gold 8k, Women's Gold 6k, and the Women's Open. As a team, the women took 34th and the men 36th, each competing in a 40-team field.
Kyah Hoffman led the way for the CMU women, placing 94th in the 336 women field, with a 21:15.8 finishing time, a career best. Crossing second for the Chippewas was Grace VanderKooi, 190th overall with a 21:51.2 time, a personal best. Both times are meet the Chippewas all-time list, Hoffman sits at 14th, while VanderKooi takes 31st.
Rounding out the women's side were:
- 223, Emma Janesak, 22:09.4, PB
- 238, Kate Jenkins, 22:17.5
- 282, Maya Guikema, 22:55.8
- 309, Jessie Gibbins, 23:25.8
Jason Fredricks crossed first for the men in their 8k, he finished 174th overall of 344 men at 25:00.2, a personal best. Second for CMU was Greg Janesak at 208 with a personal best of 25:15.2.
Joey Taverna, 220th overall at 25:23.0; Ethan Leitner, 242nd overall at 25:32.8; and Clay Kuiper, 282nd overall at 25:54.5 rounded out the men's top five.
Also competing for the men were:
- 301, Miciah Smith, 26:11.7
- 313, Aiden Smith, 26:21.5
- 324, Mason Lucas, 26:55.2, PB
In the women's open, nine Chippewa runners logged personal bests: Kayla Williams 44th overall in a 442-runner field with a 22:22.13 finish; Olivia East, 54th, 22:25.6; and Miranda McNeil, 99th 22:55.2.
Additionally, taking the line in the women's open race were:
- 75, Logan Brazee, 22:42.9
- 108, Emma Netzel, 22:59.9
- 174, Nikki Carothers, 23:37
"We took a step forward today. We got out aggressive and worked together really well." Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton said, "I'm excited to see what the second half of the season holds."
