Women’s Cross Country Takes 14th at Great Lakes Regionals, Men 20th

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Central Michigan Cross Country traveled to the Great Lakes Regionals Friday, Nov. 14. The women ran a 6k, the men a 10k.
The Chippewa women placed 14th of 35 teams, led by freshman Kyah Hoffman, who finished 45th with a time of 21:10.07 in the 231-women field. CMU totaled 448 points, just ahead of Western Michigan, who totaled 450.
Freshman Grace VanderKooi crossed second for the Chippewas and set a personal best of 21:39.9 for 78th place.
Rounding out the Chippewas' scorers were Jessie Gibbins, who crossed 89th at 21:48.49; Maya Guikema, 115th in 22:11.29; and Kate Jenkins, 121st in 22:22.53.
Hoffman closes the season with the seventh fastest time in a 6k by a Chippewa, 21:06.9, after a strong performance at the Mid-American Conference Championships (Nov. 1).
The men took home 20th in the 32-team field, led by Greg Janesak and Ethan Leitner, who took home 88th place in 32:22.28, and 90th 32:23.97, respectively in the 215-man field.
Jason Fredricks crossed third for the Chippewas at 32:38.88 for 106th. Sophomore Miciah Smith and senior Joey Taverna rounded out the Chippewa scoring, each logging a personal best. Smith crossed at 33:01.86, Taverna just over a half second later at 33:02.47 to take 124th and 125th, respectively.
Central Michigan looks onto track's indoor season, kicking off Friday, Dec. 5 at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open.
