MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—Earlier this week, Central Michigan student-athletes gathered in the Kulhavi Events Center Atrium for the athletic department's annual Dining Etiquette and networking program. The program is part of the sophomore specific portion of the four-year career series facilitated by Student-Athlete Leadership Development.
The purpose for this program is to educate student-athletes in fine dining and empower them to use this education in real time as they network during the meal with other student-athletes and professionals.
The event opened with an informative conversation centered around first impressions: introductions, eye contact, and handshakes. This was then immediately put into practice as student-athletes had the opportunity to practice shaking hands and introducing themselves with professionals and other teammates.
Once seated, professionals from various career paths helped guide conversations at each table with the student-athletes. All participants were provided with a three-course meal catered by Chartwells. As food was provided, participants were given instruction on how to navigate the plate setting, how to use their napkin, how and when they are allowed to start eating, etc.
