TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Central Michigan Cross Country competed in its final meet before the Mid-American Conference Championships at the Pre-Nationals Invite hosted by Indiana State, Friday.
Nate Carmody kicked things off for the Chippewas in the Men's Blue 8k, which featured five ranked teams. Carmody posted a 24:34.6 finish, placing 163rd out of 339 total runners.
"Nate did a great job in a very high-level race," Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton said. "He moved up throughout and gained valuable experience for the future."
Next up was the Women's White 6k, where the Chippewas took 10th of 26 teams. Sophomore standout Kyah Hoffman led the Chippewas' charge, taking 23rd overall at 21:24.3. Grace VanderKooi and Eva Thomas rounded out the Chippewas top three. VanderKooi crossed at 21:58.9 for 63rd, a personal best, while Thompson logged 22:00.7 for 70th. In all, three Chippewa runners set a personal best.
"I am really happy with the progress we have seen with the women. The place did not reflect the execution. They put themselves out there and fought for the team. We will be in a better place at MACs."
In the Men's White 8k, Miciah Smith led the CMU pack with a 38th place finish of 25:11.9 in the 16-team, 198-man field. Carson Wyss grabbed a 27:47.8 personal best and placed 186th.
"We love to see the consistency up front in the men's team. The newbies are still learning, and improvement will come with time."
Central Michigan will compete at the MAC Championships Oct. 30 in Kalamazoo, Mich., before traveling down 127 for the NCAA regionals in East Lansing, Mich.
