Student-Athlete Services is housed in the Dick Enberg Academic Center, which opened in March of 1999 to serve the academic needs of CMU student-athletes. The resource center was dedicated in the name of Dick Enberg, a 1957 graduate of Central Michigan University, in a 2007 ceremony. Enberg, a winner of 14 Emmy Awards, was known for his work as a sports broadcaster with CBS and NBC. He covered the Olympics, Super Bowl, Rose Bowl, World Series, U.S. Open, NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and Wimbledon, among other major sporting events. Enberg is an honorary member of the Academic All-America Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame and the CMU Athletics Hall of Fame.
The Center is conveniently located in the Indoor Athletic Complex, which also houses the Chippewa strength and conditioning room, turf bay and Jack Skoog Track, along with the football and track offices. The Enberg Academic Center serves as a study and consultation area for student-athletes. It is a resource center to meet with a tutor or academic advisor, use a computer, or to study during spare moments.
CMU student-athletes have access to the Center throughout the day and evening. Various individual, private study/tutorial rooms are available, along with a quiet study hall room to provide a comfortable studying environment. The Enberg Academic Center is also equipped with a 30-station computer lab. Both the Student-Athlete Services and Compliance staff offices are located in the Center.
