Rose Arena: A Sports Fan Delight This Weekend

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Chippewa sports fans won't be bored this weekend. Central Michigan University hosts a full weekend of sporting events with a basketball doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 5, and the Hampton Inn "Duels" hosted by the No. 22-ranked CMU wrestling team on Sunday, Jan. 6.
Action begins on Saturday at noon when Eileen Kleinfelter and the women's basketball team looks for their first Mid-American Conference win of the season. Tipoff against Bowling Green is set for 1 p.m.
The defending MAC champion men's team then hosts former Chippewa coach Charlie Coles and his Miami University RedHawks in the nightcap. The men's game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
CMU's nationally-ranked wrestling team hosts three other teams for dual meets on Sunday as part of the Hampton Inn "Duels." First matches are slated to begin at noon.
Central Michigan has won three straight MAC titles and there are currently five Chippewas ranked in the national polls.
The noon matches pit Central Michigan against The Citadel as Clarion battles Findlay. At 2 p.m., CMU meets Findlay and Clarion will grapple The Citadel. In the final matches of the day, Central hosts Clarion while Findlay tangles with The Citadel at 4 p.m.
Ticket prices for the basketball doubleheader are $8 for adult general admission and $6 for youth and senior citizens. The wrestling meet is $4 for adults and $3 for youth and seniors. CMU students get into both events for free with student ID.
