Brigitha and Elwer Named CMU Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Central Michigan University has selected Gerrit Brigitha (men's basketball) and Amanda Elwer (women's basketball) as CMU Scholar-Athletes of the Week. Candidates for CMU Scholar-Athletes of the Week must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and are selected based on athletic performance the previous week. Brigitha averaged 27.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in two games last week while shooting .913 from the floor. He was 21-for-23 in field goal attempts. Brigitha tallied a career-high 29 points on 12-for-12 shooting in a win over Tri-State and then followed that up with the second-best game of his career with 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting. The senior ranks in the top 10 in the MAC in both scoring and rebounding and he leads the league in field goal percentage.

Elwer averaged 10.8 points and 6.4 rebounds during the four games over winter break. She followed a 10-point outing in the win over Texas Pan-American with a 26-point, 10-rebound showing in the win over Colgate. She shot 9-for-13 from the floor against Colgate and was 8-for-9 from the line. The 26 points against the Raiders was a career high. Elwer shot .519 from the floor during the four-game stretch.
