Stoffer, Burtinsky Named CMU Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Central Michigan University has selected Kyle Stoffer(wrestling) and Sara Burtinsky (gymnastics) as CMU Scholar-Athletes of the Week. Candidates for CMU Scholar-Athletes of the Week must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and are selected based on athletic performance the previous week. Stoffer went 3-0 last weekend in duals at the Wendy's Classic hosted by Ashland. The Chippewas went 3-0 in the event as well. Stoffer picked up a pin, a major decision and a decision. Stoffer, ranked No. 17 nationally, defeated No. 12-ranked Drew Headlee of Pittsburgh, 5-1, in helping the Chippewas to a 31-3 victory over No. 25 Pittsburgh. He notched his pin against VMI in 2:46.

Burtinsky garnered first-place honors at the Stanford Quadrangular on the beam on Friday, Jan. 9. She edged out competition from Sacramento State, San Jose State and the No. 6 team in the country, Stanford. Her score of 9.875 is good enough for a tie for 16th-best in the nation.
