Four Student-Athletes Tabbed Arthur Ashe Sports Scholars

MOUNT PLEASANT - Four Central Michigan University student-athletes were tabbed Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars by Black Issues in Higher Education.
To be included, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 grade point average and be active in the campus and community.
Three CMU football players were honored along with a women's track athlete.
Stephen Messam (South Bay, Fla./So.) was a second team selection in football. The wide receiver sports a 3.53 GPA with a business major. Cornerback Tedaro France (New Haven/Sr.) and defensive lineman Marvin Smith (Wellington, Fla./Jr.) were third team picks. France is a sports studies major with a 3.21 GPA and Smith a business and biology major with a 3.20 GPA.
Track athlete LaQuesha Wiley (Southfield/Sr.) was an honorable mention selection. She is a sports studies major who competes in the sprint and jump events. Wiley carries a 3.28 GPA.
