CMU Honors Outstanding Student-Athletes

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University's athletics department honored its outstanding student-athletes at the annual Academic Excellence Banquet on Monday night at the University Center.
A total of 71 student-athletes with a grade-point-average of 3.5 or better were honored.
Six CMU teams were also singled out for being ranked in the top 25 academically in the country - men's cross country, women's cross country, women's soccer, volleyball, gymnastics and wrestling. Tops were gymnastics (seventh) and wrestling 13th.
The top men's academic team was cross country with a cumulative GPA of 3.17 while the Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship women's cross country team was tops for the women with a 3.40 GPA.
Central Michigan has won the MAC Academic Achievement Award for the highest cumulative grade-point-average by a MAC school the past three years after sharing it in 1997-98.
