CMU Turns In Top GPA In The Conference

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University has reclaimed the Mid-American Conference Institutional Academic Achievement Award, bringing home the honor in five of the last six seasons.
The Chippewas tallied a 3.12 grade-point average for 16 sports and 376 student athletes. CMU had won the honor for four consecutive seasons from 1996-2000 with Bowling Green grabbing the title in 2001. The Chippewas shared the title in 1996-97 with Ball State.
"I think that our athletes are competitive both athletically and academically, and they continue to raise the bar academically," said Assistant Athletics Director in charge of academics Pat Podoll. "This grade-point average is an example of that. It is the highest GPA that we have ever had at CMU."
The award is presented to the MAC member that has the highest overall institutional grade-point average for the student athletes competing in MAC sponsored sports. The award was first presented following the 1994-95 season.
