CMU Student-Athletes: A Classroom Hit
Central Michigan University student-athletes captured their fourth straight Mid-American Conference Academic Achievement Award. The award is given to the MAC school with the highest grade-point-average among its student-athletes. Nearly 400 Chippewa student-athletes had a 3.07 cumulative average for 1999-2000.
A total of 72 student-athletes posted a grade-point-average of 3.5 or better during the spring semester.
Eighty-three percent of the student-athletes who complete their eligibility graduate from Central Michigan University.
Sixty-seven student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.5 or better were honored at the annual academic honors banquet this past spring.
More than 50 percent of CMU's student-athletes have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
Central Michigan has led the MAC during the past two years by having the most "MAC Gatorade Scholar-Athletes of the Week" with 23.
CMU has had 33 GTE-CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. Four of the most recent are: Wendy Feldman (volleyball), first team, 1998, and third team, 1997, Kelly Sadowski (field hockey), third team, 1997, and Scott Pieratt, (baseball) and Nicole Weston (softball), both third team, 2000.
