Chippewas Cancel Field Hockey Match, Practices
Sept. 11, 2001
MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University's athletics director Herb Deromedi announced that Wednesday's field hockey match against Stanford in Muncie, Ind., would not be played because of concerns over the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
In addition, all practices for teams not in season have been canceled for Tuesday although teams in season will practice in preparation for games.
"Our No. 1 concern is for the safety of our student-athletes involved," Deromedi said.
In that light, Central Michigan will take part in a Mid-American Conference (MAC) call on Wednesday morning to discuss games pending. Also, contact is being made with Boise State officials to determine the status of the football game between the two schools slated for Saturday evening in Boise, Idaho.
