Student-Athletes Collect 6,000 Canned Goods For Charity
Nov. 6, 2002
MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan University student-athletes didn't satisfy their sweet tooth this past Halloween. Instead, they spent it collecting canned good for people in need.
Around 240 athletes hit the pavement and collected 6,003 food items on Halloween. The number surpasses the total of cans collected during the 2001 food drive.
"It was fun to get out in the community on Halloween, and to be able to help the American Red Cross Food Pantry," commented cross country runner Teresa Bonjiovanni. "The community was very excited to help out, and to see that the student-athletes help those less fortunate in the community."
Despite the cold evening, the athletes still found it a positive experience and even helped them get into the holiday spirit.
I enjoyed helping people that were less fortunate so that they could have a good holiday season," football freshman Dave Condeni said. "It was a pleasant experience interacting with the community that supports CMU athletics. I am looking forward to doing it again next year."
