Student-Athletes Active In The Community
Dec. 18, 2000
MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University student-athletes have found time in their busy schedule this past fall semester to give back to the community.
Following are some of the holiday projects Chippewa student-athletes have taken part in:
*Red Cross canned food drive on Halloween evening where CMU student-athletes collected 5,400 cans.
*Student-Athlete Clothing Drive for Christmas Outreach: student-athletes donated 15 large trash bags with winter clothing (jeans, sweatshirts, t-shirts, jackets, etc.).
*Adopt-A-Family Project for Christmas: adopted two families through Eight Cap and with the $570 collected from the student-athletes, they bought clothing, toys and food.
CMU student-athletes from nine teams are now involved in a Pen Pal Project with four Mount Pleasant grade schools. They sent out the first of monthly letters to sixth-graders (a total of 182) and have received letters back from their prospective pen pals.
(For further information on these community projects, you can contact Deb McAlpin at 1-517-774-2103 or the CMU SID office).
