Central Michigan University Athletics
Agents and Advisors
CMU Athletics strives to promote an environment for its student-athletes that extend the resources for utmost success once an individual's time at our University has elapsed. It remains a priority of the Compliance Office to provide guidance, resources, and assistance to student-athletes interested in pursuing a career in professional athletics. All the while, working tirelessly to ensure student-athlete well-being, amateurism, and eligibility are maintained.
CMU's Agent and Advisor Policy requires all individuals acting as an agent to register on an annual basis with the Compliance Office, prior to initiating contact with any student-athlete(s) or their family member(s).Â
- The term agent includes, but is not limited to, actual athlete agents, runners, financial advisors, certified contract advisors, marketing representatives, brand managers, or anyone who is employed or associated with such person(s).
- Contact includes any communication via text, social media, phone, mail, etc., as well as face-to-face interactions. Any form of contact with a student-athlete who is not eligible to enter into a professional sports contract is strictly prohibited.Â
CMU Athletics encourages agents and advisors to operate transparently and distinctly within NCAA rules when providing advisory services to student-athletes and their families. These guidelines specify,
- NCAA rules strictly prohibit student-athletes from entering into any  written or verbal  agreement with an agent.
- NCAA rules strictly prohibit student-athletes with remaining eligibility from accepting any benefit (no matter the frequency or scale) from any individual, including agents and advisors. Especially, free or reduced services; such as, legal services, physical/sport-related training, etc.Â
- NCAA rules strictly prohibit any individual (except a parent/legal guardian) from  negotiating or otherwise representing a current student-athlete in communication(s) with a professional sport organization.Â
