Chris Walker is in his fourth year at Central Michigan and serves as deputy director of athletics for external operations.
Walker oversees the department’s development, ticketing, marketing, communications and creative multimedia units, while also serving as the liaison with Learfield and Central Michigan Sports Properties on multimedia rights. He is the sport administrator for men’s basketball, while also serving on the Athletic Director’s Executive Leadership Team and the University Advancement Senior Leadership Team.
In his first year at CMU, total philanthropic commitments to the athletic department grew by 49 percent, Chippewa Athletic Fund annual giving grew by 21 percent, and total donations to the athletic department increased by 18 percent. Additionally, ticket-generated revenue increased by 5 percent from fiscal year 2020.
Prior to CMU, Walker served as executive director of athletics development at UC Irvine for three years. At UC Irvine, Walker served on the executive leadership teams of both university advancement and intercollegiate athletics while directing the athletics portion of the university’s $2 billion capital campaign.
He led the athletic development efforts at Washington State for nine years as the associate athletic director for development, leading the athletics portion of the university’s $1 billion capital campaign, raising nearly $97 million for departmental priorities. During Walker’s tenure at Washington State, annual fund dollars generated (167%) and number of donors (152%) grew to record levels, and he was involved in over $130 million in athletic facility construction and renovation.
Walker has also served in administrative capacities at North Carolina Wilmington, Southern Methodist, Florida State and with the Southern Conference.
Walker and his wife Becky are both graduates of Florida State and are the parents of sons Spencer and Carson.
