Curtis Bell joined coach Jennifer Swieton’s Central Michigan track & field coaching staff as an assistant in July, 2022.
Bell, a native of Coleman, coaches vertical jumps and throws. He coached for the past three seasons at Detroit Mercy, where he specialized in coaching multi-event groups including jumps and throws.
At Detroit Mercy, Bell-coached student-athletes earned a combined total of 25 All-Horizon League honors and one NCAA Regional qualifier.
From 2014-18, Bell coached at the Aquinas Vault Academy where he trained multiple athletes who earned All-State honors including Trevor Stephenson of East Kentwood, who in 2018 set the state of Michigan high school all-division record with a 16-foot, 9 1/2-inch vault.
Bell served as a volunteer assistant coach at CMU in 2018-19, helping in the development of the 2019 CMU women’s team that captured the Mid-American Conference outdoor championships.
Bell earned a bachelor of science degree with a major in athletic trailing from Aquinas College, where he was a three-time NAIA pole vault national champion and a six-time NAIA All-American in the event.
