Gabrielle Lathrop joined the CMU Athletic Department in August 2024 as its Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services. In her position, she will provide leadership for student-athletes in their pursuits of excellence in the classroom, community, and competition for the football program, as well as oversee academic support services for additional team(s). She serves on the CMU Athletics leadership team, supervises the student-athlete services staff, and oversees the daily operations of the student-athlete services unit.
Lathrop arrived in Mount Pleasant after the spending the previous 18 months as the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Services at the University of Illinois-Chicago. At UIC, she served as the academic advisor for the Flames' Women’s Basketball, Volleyball, and Men’s Soccer teams, while also overseeing day to day functions of the Port Center.
Prior to joining UIC, she served as Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Support Services at West Virginia University, where she handled the day-to-day academic services for men's basketball, men's soccer, and gymnastics. While at West Virginia she was also responsible for the unit’s social media accounts, supervising graduate assistants, and acted as the liaison with the campus international office.
Lathrop previously served as an academic coach at Niagara where she worked with men’s and women’s basketball since 2015. While at Niagara she created programs to help improve student-athlete life skills, supervised peer tutor and writing center staff members and also met weekly with Niagara’s at-risk student-athletes.
Prior to Niagara, she spent one year at Ohio University in 2014 as the Bobcats’ NCAA eligibility and student-athlete success learning specialist.
The D’Youville College graduate worked one year at Canisius as an academic support services graduate assistant in 2014 while earning her Master’s degree in Sport Administration. A native of Clarence, N.Y., Lathrop received a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and sport studies in 2012 while competing as a member of the 2011 Spartan softball team that claimed a conference title and participated in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
