Nicole Ortega begins her first year as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Central Michigan University. She will work primarily with the Chippewa volleyball team.
She joins the Chippewa athletic training department after working the 2026 academic year at Bridgewater State asn an assistant athletic trainer. She worked with the men's lacrosse, track and field, and football teams.
Ortega has also served athletic training stints at Spotswood High School in Penn Laird, Va. and with the James Madison women's basketball and baseball programs. She also traveled to Dublin, Ireland as part of a sports medicine study abroad program, where she gained experience from sports medicine professionals at Dubly City Unviersity, University College of Dublin, Leinster Rugby, Sports Physio Ireland, and NaFianna Gaelic Sports Club.
A native of Vineland, N.J., Ortega graduated with a Bachlor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Salisbury University in 2024. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Athletic Training from James Madison University in 2026.
At Salisbury, she was a four-year member of the softball team. As an all-conference pitcher, she went 37-11 with a 1.75 earned run average with 36 starts, 10 complete games, and six saves. She struck out 186 batters in 271.1 innings pitched.
