Spencer Sandow joined the Central Michigan Soccer coaching staff in July 2024 after a three-year stint with the men’s program at NCAA II Northwood University.
With the Timberwolves, Sandow had a hand in recruiting, player analysis, game film, logistics and the program’s academic standing under Head Coach Stevie Shard. Between his first two seasons at Northwood, the program turned around a 3-10-1 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in 2021 to a 7-6-1 mark in league play in 2022.
His tenure with Northwood coincided with taking the reins of the Midland Dow High School girls’ varsity program, leading the Chargers to a pair of district championships and a 32-match unbeaten streak that was active at the time of his departure in the summer of 2024. He was twice named the district’s coach of the year and was a three-time Saginaw Valley League Coach of the Year.
Sandow joined the Olympic Development Program (ODP) coaching staff for Michigan Youth Soccer in 2018, aiding the program in identifying top players around the state and developing them for opportunities at the regional level.
For the 2018 and 2019 seasons, Sandow was an assistant under Head Coach Josh Oakley for the men’s programs at NCAA III Alma College and NAIA Spring Arbor in respective seasons. He had a part in recruiting, edited game film, monitored student-athletes’ academic standing and managed the team’s social media accounts in both positions. He was the interim head coach at Alma during Oakley’s transition from the Scots after the 2018 season.
Since 2016, Sandow has been a staff coach for Midland Soccer Club, was promoted to the program’s College Coordinator in 2021 and became its Tournament Director in 2024. As the College Coordinator, he created curriculum to help players in their college searches and put on yearly workshops to educate on the recruiting process. As its tournament director, he organized two annual tournaments that combined to bring over 240 teams to Midland.
Sandow’s collegiate coaching career began in 2016 at NCAA III Lakeland University with a two-year graduate assistant tenure with the women’s program under Head Coach Rob Blake. On top of typical assistant duties, Sandow also taught a course, Theory and Technique of Coaching Soccer, at Lakeland.
He was a three-year player for Alma College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Management in 2016. He scored 11 goals, tallied four assists in over 2,000 minutes for the Scots. His stint at Lakeland led to him completing his Master of Business Administration in December 2017.
