Nicknamed "Scrappy" or "Scrap Iron" for his aggressive style of play ... lettered three times each in football, baseball and track for the Chippewas in the early and mid-1940's ... earned All-American recognition in football ... named to CMU's all-time football team in 1969 ... was a top hitter in baseball with home run power and outstanding defensive skills in the outfield ... was a shot putter and discus thrower in track who also ran the 440 ... won two campus boxing championships on the intramural level ... coached 30 years of high school football and track in White Cloud, Belding, Frankenmuth and Flint ... his football teams were 133-41-7 and he coached eight state championships in track.
