Nicknamed Jesse "Great" Lakes ... one of the finest tailbacks ever to wear the Maroon and Gold ... ran for 343 yards and scored five TDs in his first collegiate start against Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1969 ... first Chippewa to gain 3,000 yards ... still third-leading rusher with 3,702 yards, breaking the coveted 1,000-yard barrier each season ... twice named CMU MVP ... stands 10th in career total offense with 3,702 yards ... twice scored five TDs in one game ... scored 35 career TDs ... returned 14 kickoffs for an average of 20.4 yards ... averaged 123.4 yards a game for his career.
