Men's Cross Country Takes Second At MAC Finals

KALAMAZOO -- The Central Michigan men's cross country team finished tied for second at the Mid-American Conference Championships Saturday afternoon in Kalamazoo.
Eastern Michigan took the honors with 38 points. Following the Eagles were CMU (80), Miami (80), Western Michigan (112), Kent State (143), Bowling Green (145), Ball State (183), Akron (245), Marshall (249), Buffalo (252), Ohio (266) and Toledo (329).
CMU had two top-ten finishers with Luke Humphrey (Sidney/So.) taking sixth at 24:41 and Pete Remien (Ishpeming/Jr.) scoring a ninth-place finish at 24:49. Freshman Kevin Sule (Hemlock) was 20th (25:09), Richard Bauer (Howell/So.) was 22nd (25:13) and Tristen Perlberg (Bay City/Fr.) rounds out the top five CMU finishers with a 23rd-place finish at 25:13. Jared Biniecki (Canton/Sr.) was 25th at 25:27 while the seventh runner, Jeff Davis (Temperance/Fr.), was 46th (26:10).
The Chippewas had two runners claim All-MAC honors. Humphrey was a first-team selection while Remien was named to the second team.
The Chippewas runners return to action when they attempt to qualify for the NCAAs at the Great Lakes District Championships at Eastern Michigan on Nov. 11. The race is slated for a noon start.
