MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan University women's soccer team (10-10, 7-4 Mid-American) season came to an end with a 2-1 loss to Western Michigan (10-8-2, 5-4-2 Mid-American) in the opening round of the MAC tournament at the Soccer Field Inside Bennett Track on Tuesday afternoon.
The Broncos jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead when Abi Morrell netted a goal on a perfect cornerkick at 8:24 and Brandi Buchhausen returned a clearing attempt into the Chippewa net at 29:37. It was the only two shots on goal Western Michigan tallied in the contest.
The Chippewas cut the lead in half at 80:12 when Laura Fedrigo (Livonia/Sr.) put CMU on the board.
Central Michigan had several chances to tie the match late in the game but Bronco goalie Megan Ramey made three diving saves to keep Western Michigan on top.
Beth Quiney (Milford/Jr.) started the game and allowed two goals. Kari Alexander (Midland/Fr.) finished the game uncontested.
