Men's Cross Country Competes At Two Meets

THE TEAM--The Chippewa squad splits up this weekend with part of the team running at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships on Oct. 13 at Western Michigan University and another group competing at the Pre-NCAA Meet on Oct. 14 at Iowa State University.
THE COACH--Craig Fuller is in his 11th year heading up the Chippewa men's cross country program. Fuller, who also serves as an assistant track coach, guided CMU to a Mid-American Conference championship in 1999. He has mentored four CMU athletes to All-American honors including Richie Brinker (1997-98) and Ryan Watson (1998) and five MAC champions in Jeff Drenth (1982-83), Pat Duffy (1984), Barry Deese (1994) and Brinker (1998).
LAST WEEK--The Chippewas were off last weekend in preparation for this weekends meets.
FULLER ON THE PRE-NATIONALS--"The pre-nationals will be one of the biggest races ever. There will be 65 teams racing at this meet, 16 of which are ranked in the top 25. We need to run well and beat as many ranked as possible so that we can collect as many at-large points as possible. It's going to be one of the most competitive meets ever."
FULLER ON THE MICHIGAN INTERCOLLEGIATES-- "We're looking at 22 or 23 teams to compete in Kalamazoo this weekend. Michigan, Western Michigan and Detroit will be the main Division I teams competing It will also feature other schools from around the state and it should be a good competition for us."
UPCOMING--The Chippewas have next weekend off in preparation for the Mid-American Conference championships on Oct. 28 at Western Michigan.
