YPSILANTI -
The Central Michigan University women's soccer team (14-6-1 overall) lost to Miami, 2-1, in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference tournament hosted by Eastern Michigan.
Miami jumped to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Andrea Cunningham at the 8:31 mark. Freshman Jennifer Williamson (Midland) tied it at 1-1 with an unassisted goal at 27:42. The score remained deadlocked until the 87:38 mark when Miami's Danielle Berkemeier scored the winning goal for the RedHawks.
CMU goalie Elizabeth Quiney (Milford/So.) played the entire game and made five saves while giving up two goals.
"The wind was brutal in both games," said head coach Mark Salisbury. "It was difficult to try to play. The goal we scored was a bit of a fluke goal with the wind and their goal at the end was a bit of a soft goal. We're a second-year program and we built a great deal of the program this year. This was as far as we could go this year. We're going to take all of this into the off season ... and come back next year and go at it again."
