MOUNT PLEASANT -
The Central Michigan University women's soccer team was the eighth most improved team in the nation in 1999 as reported by Soccer Buzz.
The Chippewas finished 6-10-1 in 1998 and 14-6-1 in 1999 - an improvement of six games. CMU was the only second year program to finish in the top 10.
The rankings used the NCAA Standard for calculating a teamUs change in record from the previous season. MAC opponent Miami and Southwest Missouri State tied for first in the nation with an improvement of 8.5 games.
Central went from a 10th-place finish in the Mid-American Conference in 1998 to a second-place finish in 1999. The Chippewas won their first MAC tournament game against Northern Illinois and fell in the semifinals to Miami. Key to CMU's success was the play of Emilie VilleMonte (Farmington Hills/Fr.) who led the team with 24 points and first team All-MAC pick Kjersten Kuhlman (St. Louis, MO/Jr.). Other key contributors were Anne Fedrigo (Livonia/So.) with 14 points, Darcey Rasch (Rochester Hills/Sr.) 12, Andrea Galindo (Livonia/So.) 12, Sabrina Borgquist (West Bloomfield/Fr.) 11 and Jenny Williamson (Midland/Fr.) 11.
