The Central Michigan University field hockey team (0-1, 0-0 Mid-American Conference) dropped a 6-1 decision to Northwestern University (1-0 overall, 0-0 Big Ten) on Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
The Chippewas got on the board first with a goal by Cheryl Eglin (Wading River, NY/Sr.) at 14:46 of the first half. The Wildcats responded with a pair in the first half to take a 2-1 halftime lead and scored four more in the second half to put the game away.
Goalie Malia Swieconek (Annapolis, MD/So.) made six saves and gave up four goals while freshman Janel Spero (Shoreham, NY) made two saves and gave up two goals.
The Chippewas take on New Hampshire on Sunday, Sept. 5, in Evanston.
