MOUNT PLEASANT -
The Central Michigan University field hockey team (2-7 overall, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) dropped its second straight game with a 4-1 loss to Kent State University on Saturday afternoon at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
Kent exploded for four first-half goals to cruise to the victory. CMU's Tara Russell (Portsmouth, VA/Sr.) got Central on the board with 15:28 left in the game to make it 4-1 but it was as close as the Chippewas would get. Goalies Janel Spero (Shoreham, NY/Fr.) and Malia Swieconek (Annapolis, MD/So.) split duties in goal. Spero played the first half and gave up four goals and made five saves while Swieconek played the second half and made four saves while shutting out the Golden Flashes.
CMU travels to Ball State on Oct. 9.
