Baseball Wraps Up Spring Trip With Win Over Iowa

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Central Michigan University baseball team (7-4 overall) wrapped up its spring trip to Florida with a 9-3 win over Iowa (1-9 overall) on Sunday morning.
Senior Dan Schell picked up the win for the Chippewas. He went six innings and gave up eight hits and three runs while striking out three for his first win on the year. Senior Mike Fawcett went the final three innings to post his first save on the year. He gave up two hits and struck out three.
CMU led 1-0 in the second inning and added two runs in the fourth, one in the sixth and five in the seventh for the win.
The Chippewas were led by senior Jake Sanborn who had three hits, one RBI and scored three runs and senior Mike Steele who had three hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Senior Kevin Uzarski had two RBI on a pair of sacrifice flys and senior Shaun Gragg had a home run and double in his last two at-bats.
The Chippewas return to action on this Friday against Oregon State at the Continental Airlines Classic hosted by Texas A&M.
