Baseball Falls To Michigan State

The Central Michigan University baseball team (16-8 overall, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) dropped a 6-2 nonconference decision to Michigan State University (8-17) on Wednesday afternoon at Kobs Field.
Michigan State freshman right-hander Ryan Golem handcuffed the Chippewas on four hits through eight innings to pick up his first win on the year.
The Chippewas took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Tim Groves (Clare/Fr.) in the second inning. Michigan State got on the scoreboard with four runs in the third inning to claim a 4-1 advantage. The Spartans added single runs in the fifth and eighth innings to take a 6-1 lead before CMU's Jake Sanborn (Grand Ledge/Sr.) rounded out the scoring with a solo home run in the ninth to make it 6-2.
Starter Chad Pleiness (Scottville/So.) took the loss for the Chippewas to make his record 1-1. He pitched four innings and gave up four hits and four runs while striking out one.
The Chippewas return to action in a doubleheader against Miami on April 8 at Theunissen Stadium beginning at 1 p.m.
