THE TEAM - The Central Michigan University women's soccer team (5-4-1 overall, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) will have a busy week, taking on three MAC rivals. CMU tries to extend its four-game winning streak when it travels to Western Michigan on Wednesday, Oct 10. Game time is 1 p.m. The match with the Broncos (5-4 overall, 2-2 MAC) is a makeup game for the postponed contest on Sept. 14.
Central continues it's road trip with a match at Toledo (4-3-1 overall, 2-4-1 MAC) on Friday, Oct. 12. Game time is 3 p.m. CMU leads the series, 2-1, and in the last meeting between these two teams, CMU came away with the victory, 5-2.
The Chippewas finish their busy week when they travel to Bowling Green on Sunday, Oct. 14. Game time is 1 p.m. The Falcons (6-3-2 overall, 3-1-1 MAC) lead the all-time series, 2-1, and won the last meeting, 3-1.
Mark Salisbury is currently in his fourth season heading up the Central Michigan women's soccer program. Salisbury is 35-30-3 at CMU and owns a 93-75-11 mark as a head coach. He has led the Chippewas to two Mid-American Conference tournament bids in the last three years.
GAME AFTER GAME - "It's important to play well and get the results that we want," said head coach Mark Salisbury. "This is going to be a tough week. We play one-third of our conference games this week and that's a lot of games in a short period of time. But, we're up for it and I think we have the kind of team that can deal with situations like this."
HEARTS ON SLEEVES - "I was happy with last week's win over Marshall," Salisbury said. "We came from behind and that showed a lot of character and heart. It was a real positive for the team and it's something that we'll need the rest of the way."
LAST WEEK - The Central Michigan women's soccer team scored twice in a 2:15 period to beat Marshall on Sunday, 2-1.
Allison Campbell (Livonia/Sr.) scored in the 63rd off of a crossing pass from Erica Peterson (Fenton/Jr.) to score the game-winner. Sabrina Borgquist (West Bloomfield/Jr.) also picked up an assist on the play.
Marshall's Erin Steinke opened the scoring with a goal in the 23rd minute. She scored off a lead pass from Amanda McMahon, who picked up an assist on the play. Campbell then tied it up in the 60th minute when her shot deflected off a Marshall player and into the goal.
Kari Alexander (Midland/So.) faced 10 shots, nine of which were on goal. She made eight saves to pick up the victory.
SCORING IN BUNCHES - In their last two game, the Chippewas have scored two goals within four minutes of each other to pick up the victory. In their game against Akron, they scored goals 3:30 apart late in the game to net the victory. In their last contest, they scored goals 2:15 apart middle way through the second half to beat Marshall.
