MAC Cross Country Poll Released

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Both of the Central Michigan women's and men's cross country teams were tabbed to finish third in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), according to the MAC coaches poll.
The women's team was picked third with 108 points while the men's team's 104 points was also third.
The women's team finished strong last season and captured the MAC championship, the second in school history. "Coach of the Year" Karen Lutzke has two returning All-MAC selections in senior Brook Creed (Walkerville) and junior Cami Moll (Zeeland).
The men's team tied for second in the MAC championships last year and return two All-MAC selctions as well. Senior Luke Humphrey (Sidney) grabbed first-team honors while Pete Remein (Ishpeming) was a second-team honoree.
Toledo was picked to take the MAC crown on the women's side with 124 points and seven first-place votes. It was followed by: Kent State 115, Central Michigan 108, Akron and Ball State 95, Miami 93, Ohio 72, Eastern Michigan 55, Bowling Green and Western Michigan 54, Buffalo 31, Marshall 18 and Northern Illinois 12.
On the men's side, Eastern Michigan and Miami were the favorites with 112 points each. EMU snagged five first-place votes while Miami had four. Following the top two are: Central Michigan 104, Kent State 86, Western Michigan 82, Bowling Green 73, Ball State 52, Marshall 45, Ohio 38, Akron 34, Buffalo 27 and Toledo 19.
Both teams open the season by hosting the Jeff Drenth Invitational. The meet is on Friday, Aug. 31, and will be held at University Park at 4 p.m.
