THE TEAM - The Central Michigan University women's soccer team (2-4-1 overall, 1-1Mid-American Conference) continues MAC play this week with a home match against Ohio and a road match against Akron.
The Chippewas host Ohio on Friday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m. The last time these two teams met, CMU topped Ohio, 4-1. The Bobcats (3-3 overall, 2-0 MAC) enter the match on the heels of a 1-0 win over Marshall. They are led in scoring by Christel Schiering with four goals this season.
On Sunday, Sept. 30, CMU travels to Akron to take on its first-year program. Game time is at 1 p.m. The Zips (2-5 overall, 0-3 MAC) are led by Jeannie Stuckey with 14 points this season.
Mark Salisbury is currently in his fourth season heading up the Central Michigan women's soccer program. Salisbury is 32-30-3 at CMU and owns a 90-75-11 mark as a head coach. He has led the Chippewas to two Mid-American Conference tournament bids in the last three years.
STAYING ON TRACK - "We have two teams this week that are dangerous and cannot be overlooked," commented head coach Mark Salisbury. "Ohio is another top team in the league along with Miami. It does a lot of things well and we must stay focused if we want to win."
"Akron is a first-year program, and with any first year program it is more concerned about playing well then the results," remarked Salisbury. "That makes Akron a dangerous team that we must not take lightly or it will blow us out of the water. "
WIN SOME, LOSE SOME - "We played pretty well this weekend and I am happy with our progess," said Salisbury. "I think we played well enough to win Friday but made one or two mistakes and that killed us. Miami is a great team and it deserved the victory and hopefully we can win the next time we meet."
"In Sunday's game, we played well and I am happy how we bounced back in overtime to win the game," remarked Salisbury. "We have to get better each time we go out and play and I think we did that in Sunday's game."
