Post Game Notes and Quotes
Notes:
*CMU wide out Jacob Brown caught four passes for 31 yards this afternoon. He had caught two passes in his entire career.
*Kent Smith came on in relief of CMU QB Derrick Vickers for the second straight time. Last week, he led CMU to two fourth-quarter TDs, and this week, he led the Chippewas to another late touchdown.
*Rob Turner caught five catches for 88 yards. He now has 110 career grabs (moves into fourth all-time). He is three catches shy of cracking the top 10 in catches in a season.
*Cardinal running back Marcus Merriweather rushed for 129 yards. He now owns the BSU single-season rushing record with 1,307 yards. He breaks a record he set last year with 1,244 yards.
*BSU QB Andy Roesch had his second five-TD game this season. He ties BSU's single-game TD mark. It is also the Kelly/Shorts Stadium record.
Ball State head coach Bill Lynch
"The key to our victory today was that our offense and defense was able to play a full 60 minutes of football. On offense, our wide receivers did a nice job of getting open and catching the ball. Andy Rosech made some nice passes, and our offensive line did a nice job of protecting him."
"Having an off week really helped our defense prepare for Central Michigan. We knew that its running backshave been successful as of late, so we worked hard on stopping the run, and making it throw the ball."
"We got conservative in the Western Michigan game throwing the ball. But, during the off week, we decided we needed a balanced offense. We knew comming into this game that CMU had one of the better run defenses in the MAC, and that we were going to have throw the ball."
CMU head coach Mike DeBord
"I thought he (Andy Roesch) played well. We left receivers open too much, and we had a lack of execution of defense."
"All losses hurt. You put so much into it throughout the season and every week, and it hurts every time. I thought we had an opportunity to win today. But, Ball State out-executed us."
"I thought we were two evenly-matched teams comming into the game, and that is what's so frustruating. We put a lot into this game, and it feels like I've been slapped in the face. I'm just stunned."
"He (Derrick Vickers) had spurts where he played really well, but he struggeld early."
"Right now, we are an inconsistent team. We haven't changed anything in practice, and it is troubling as to why we are playing this way."
