Kaman Leads Chippewas To Exhibition Win

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Chris Kaman's double-double performance of 19 points and 11 rebounds led Central Michigan University to an 80-55 exhibition win over Northwood on Saturday night.
Kaman was 5-for-7 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the line while also blocking four shots and handing out four assists.
In CMU's final preseason tune-up, the Chippewas held a 39-27 edge in the rebounding department as CMU grabbed 11 offensive boards compared to NU's two.
Forward Mike Manciel posted 12 points while freshman Joe Carr had nine points and four assists.
The Timberwolves were led by Dallas Logan's 14 points while D.J. Hughes had 11. Fayssal Akacem tallied eight points and seven rebounds.
Northwood jumped out to an early nine-point lead, 19-10, with 10:44 to go in the first half. However, CMU closed the half on a 26-10 run to take a 36-29 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Chippewas cruised in the second half, starting the frame on a 16-2 run to push the margin to 21 points. The lead remained a comfortable cushion the rest of the way as CMU led by as many as 30 at one point.
The Chippewas open the regular season on Friday (Nov. 16) against George Mason. It is a doubleheader with the CMU women hosting Siena Heights at 5:30 p.m., and the men hosting GMU at 7:30 p.m.
