YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Robbie Mixon ran for 377 yards to set a Mid-American Conference record and scored four touchdowns as Central Michigan University defeated Eastern Michigan 47-21.
Mixon, who had 43 carries, surpassed the conference mark of 376 yards, set by Miami of Ohio's Travis Prentice in 1999 against Akron. The school record was 356 yards, set by Brian Pruitt in 1994 against Toledo. He also finished with 435 yards in all-purpose yards to tie Pruitt's single-game mark also set against Toledo in '94.
Mixon's big day began just 16 seconds into the game, when he ran 65 yards for a touchdown to give the Chippewas (4-5, 2-3 MAC) a 7-0 lead.
Eastern (3-6, 1-4) rallied and got to 17-14, but Mixon's 1-yard plunge put CMU ahead by 10 with 7:46 left in the first half.
Ime Akpan had a touchdown run and C.R. Roberson and Keven Zureki each had touchdown receptions from quarterback Troy Edwards for Eastern.
Mixon struck again with 9:55 left in the third quarter, running 17 yards to put CMU up 34-14. Seven minutes later, Mixon added a 31-yard touchdown run as the Chippewas pushed the lead to 41-14.
Terrence Jackson also had 83 yards rushing and a touchdown on 20 carries for CMU, which gained 488 yards on the ground against the nation's second-worst run defense. The 488 yards was a season-high for the Chippewas, besting the 263 put up at Indiana. Thr 47 points were the most ever by a Mike DeBord-coached squad at CMU
Mike Gruzwalski kicked four field goals for the Chippewas. It marked the second time this season he's tied the school record with four three-pointers in a game.
The Chippewas will look for their second straight win on the road at Toledo on Saturday, November 9, at 7 p.m. The game will be telecast live on CMU Public TV.
